The new system is a big change, but Spradlin said she and her team are up to the challenge she understands her piece of the puzzle helps with the overall big picture. Spradlin said G-invoicing will allow all federal agencies to trade with each other without running into compatibility issues due to agency-specific forms. Some of those changes will help the AMCOM community smoothly transition to the new G-invoicing standardized support agreement system mandated for use this year by the Department of the Treasury. “When policies change, a lot of times our processes have to change, our business rules have to change and, in this case, a lot of information had to be added to the support agreement form.” “Over the last year and a half there were an incredible amount of policy changes regarding support agreements,” Spradlin said. The peace and quiet came in handy during the past 18 months while she teleworked and dealt with major revisions to the support agreement process. She describes the farm as the best of both worlds - close to town, but in the country. She lives on a seven-acre farm with her husband and four children, along with some miniature donkeys, goats, chickens, turkeys, cows, pigs, cats and dogs. Spradlin joined AMCOM six years ago as a contractor and became an Army civilian last year. A self-described Army brat, she considers Huntsville, Alabama, home because her parents retired here when she was in high school. Supporting the warfighter is near and dear to Spradlin. It requires teamwork to accomplish the mission and the ultimate mission is our warfighters.” “An agency might be great at designing new weapons systems, but they need a logistician familiar with databases who can track those systems,” she said. Rather than add a job position outside of its core function, an agency will buy that service from the ALC through a support agreement. Spradlin said one of the most requested services she sees is for logisticians, because of the AMCOM Logistics Center. “There are other government agencies who don’t have a lot of security specialists, so they come to AMCOM to get the services they need to accomplish their mission.” “For example, with AMCOM, we are not rich in engineers so we have to go to our government trading partners that have a lot of engineers and buy engineering services from them,” Spradlin explained. Similar to a contractual document, support agreements outline the general terms and conditions for the trading partners. Support agreements allow government agencies to acquire skill sets outside of their core mission by exchanging services and funds. Christina Spradlin enjoys making life easier for others, which is key when you are the team lead for support agreements with the U.S. The “Rule of Rectangles” is good to keep in mind when determining grid configurations. The larger the window size, the more “lites” of glass can be created using grids. Lites in grid patterns should not generally be smaller than 8 inches in width and 6 inches in height. The resulting size shows the average size of glass surrounded by grids. Take a sheet of notebook paper and bend it in half. This way, when you view the home from the exterior, you have a unified look. Generally, grid patterns should match in all the windows on the same floor and on the same side of the house. On the Double Hung, you may choose to have grids on both sash, on the top sash only, or on the bottom sash and not the top. For example, a Casement window has only one sash, while a Double Hung window has both a top and bottom sash. Grids are defined within the sash of a window. This meeting rail acts as a horizontal grid in these types of windows. Also, remember that the meeting rail (the horizontal portion of a Double or Single Hung window where the sashes come together) also provides a visual break in the lines of the window-basically between the top and bottom sash. You don’t necessarily need to have both vertical and horizontal grids in a window. Horizontal grids go “side to side” on the glass. Vertical grids go in an “up and down” direction on the glass of the window. Basically, grids (which can sometimes be called grills, grilles or muntins) divide a large window into smaller viewing units, called “lites.” If a window looks too large for a room or you want to accent the unit, it’s time to think about grids. Tip #2 – Consider the size of the window. The most popular ways are to place the grids between the panes of glass (which eliminates cleaning hassles), affix the grids on top of the glass with an adhesive or to have snap-in grids that are slipped into grooves at the top and bottom of the units. Different window manufacturers attach grids in different ways to a window. Tip #1 – Know where the grids are located. Fortunately there are some tips to help even a novice correctly specify window grids.”ĭavis offers these suggestions for understanding grids and how to specify them for windows: “For those individuals who want grids on their windows, the key elements are to achieve balance with the grids and to select grid patterns that are aesthetically pleasing. However, those people may sacrifice style and an important design detail on the home. “Anyone can go with clear glass windows and eliminate grid decisions by ordering plain glass. “Grids can be considered the ‘cherry on top of the sundae’ for windows in the home,” says Whitney Davis of Simonton Windows. For newer homes, you’ll want to consider if the window grids should be a design accent for the home, pull-together the architectural theme of the house and/or provide continuity of adjoining windows within a room or from one room to another. For older homes, you may need to capture the historic character of the home’s style with grids fashioned to complement a previous era. There are some definite considerations that should be taken into account when determining the configuration, color and style for window grids.ĭecisions you make on grids can positively (or negatively) affect the overall look on both the home’s exterior and interior. Whether you’re ordering windows for a new home or considering replacing windows in an existing house, sooner or later you’re going to have to make a decision on grids. However, MFT8 does not import a valid ALIA tag correctly it simply imports the pointer (cross-reference), e.g., “I008.” There doesn’t seem to be a proper ALIA field in MFT. + Found no unreadable data entries in my GEDCOM, which is also a good thing since there weren’t any. This is a good thing a genealogy app should always produce a GEDCOM import log listing any data that could not be imported. + Upon importing a GEDCOM, a “GEDCOM Import Warnings” log is produced listing not parseable tags and unreadable data entries. However, see the Cons section for my take on the “Attention: Media file import” section. Importing a GEDCOM file into MFT is straightforward, but MacFamilyTree has an article, “Switch from Family Tree Maker to MacFamilyTree and import your family tree,” on their website. References to the GEDCOM standard are to version 5.5.1. Portions of text in all capital letters that are not acronyms are GEDCOM tags, with the rest of the plain text field name in lowercase. Versions tested: MFT 7.6.2 and MFT 8.0 (thanks to Synium Software for the redeem codes). I don’t feel that I can keep asking Synimum Software for free codes, and even if they provided me one, it seems it would be a waste of my time and effort to review version 10, since they told me in 2016 that version 8 would correct the GEDCOM problems but it did not, and now the problems are even worse in version 10! I can draw a straight horizontal line that skewers all of the children, like a kebab ?: By default, they're nicely lined up, side-by-side. In Flexbox, items are distributed along the primary axis. To help me explain, I'd like to use a metaphor. These questions get at one of the most important and misunderstood things about Flexbox. Why is it justify-content and align-items, and not justify- items, or align- content?įor that matter, why is there an align-self, but not a justify-self? So, based on what we've learned so far, Flexbox might seem pretty arbitrary. To understand why not, we need to dig deeper into the Flexbox algorithm. align-items is syntactic sugar, a convenient shorthand that automatically sets the alignment on all the children at once. In fact, they change the exact same thing. It allows us to change the alignment of a specific child along the cross axis:Īlign-self has all the same values as align-items. Unlike justify-content and align-items, align-self is applied to the child element, not the container. Why don't they share the same options? We'll unravel this mystery shortly, but first, I need to share one more alignment property: align-self. It's interesting… With align-items, we have some of the same options as justify-content, but there isn't a perfect overlap. We can bunch all the items up in a particular spot (with flex-start, center, and flex-end), or we can spread them apart (with space-between, space-around, and space-evenly).įor the cross axis, things are a bit different. Instead, it's all about the distribution of the group. When it comes to the primary axis, we don't generally think in terms of aligning a single child. We can change how children are distributed along the primary axis using the justify-content property: We can control whether items grow or shrink, how the extra space is distributed, and more. As the name suggests, Flexbox is all about flexibility. So, what problem does Flexbox solve? Flexbox is all about arranging a group of items in a row or column, and giving us a ridiculous amount of control over the distribution and alignment of those items. Headings and paragraphs stack vertically as blocks, while things like text, links, and images sit inconspicuously within these blocks. The default “Flow” layout is meant to create digital documents it's essentially the Microsoft Word layout algorithm. This means that, by default, all children will be positioned according to the Flexbox layout algorithm.Įach layout algorithm is designed to solve a specific problem. When we flip display to flex, we create a “flex formatting context”. The default layout mode is Flow layout, but we can opt in to Flexbox by changing the display property on the parent container: Each layout mode is its own little sub-language within CSS. Link to this headingIntroduction to FlexboxĬSS is comprised of many different layout algorithms, known officially as “layout modes”.
